Well, at least 13 is my lucky number! I didn't think I would have much to put into this blog entry, but then out of the blue comes the realization that my CMII crusade is beginning to make more of an impact than I had believed. The Training Production Group that I work for, which in its turn is a part of a major Helicopter manufacturing company, has now decided that the Learning Management System (LMS)that we have used to produce a major training contract for the British Army, will set the mould for all the other training that we produce. In particular the Helicopter training. The import of this decision is profound. Currently we have a large number of "instructors" within the company that all produce their own training as PowerPoint presentations. Perhaps I am being harsh, but I believe that they justify their employment by continually modifying their presentations, when they are not instructing on the many courses that we run. Because of this, each instructor can have his own presentation on a common subject, for example, the Theory of Flight. All this training is migrating over on to our LMS, which now has CMII methodology built in to the system. It has now been realized that the combination of LMS and CMII will mean that one learning object, of whatever size, will only need to be created once and if it is created correctly the first time, will rarely need modifying. The implication is obvious, potentially we will not need as many instructors as we currently employ, or conversely we can then use these instructors to create other training and thus widen our customer range.
The other important thing on a personal issue, is that I am keen to gain my CMII Professional qualification. I have now raised the subject of me attending either the 2007 or 2008 CMII Conference and give a presentationn on how we have incorporated CMII methodology in to the Training we produce. I will keep you informed on how this initiative progresses, but at the moment all I can say is that I was given a responsivie hearing from my First Line Manager, who has promised to take it up with his manager, but he has accepted my arguments that a) It would be an obvious progression for me to aspire to the higher CMII qualification, b) I will need to keep current on CMII developments to ensure that our company benefits from these developments, c) It would give our company a good chance to sell the training we produce, d) It would benefit the other areas of our company to have a CMII Professional in residence.
Once again, I will keep you informed on how this issues progresses.
